Sabine Massenet

Image Trouvée

It all began with a simple card, bearing the note: ‘If you find this image, please write to the following email address…’. Sabine Massenet, like others who toss messages in  bottles  out to  sea,  ‘launched’ her messages into the unknown.  Slipped between the pages of books chosen at random in various libraries of the Seine-Saint-Denis region on the outskirts of Paris, they were the beginning of an adventure  that lead  to rewarding encounters with  anonymous readers.

Sabine Massenet

Born in 1958.

Lives and works in Paris.

Sabine Massenet is a video artist. In 1997, after having worked with a variety of media (earth, plaster, photography), creating installations in which she sometimes associated narrative elements, Sabine Massenet decided to devote herself uniquely to video art. She explored the theme of the portrait, directing her work towards language and towards images’ effects on collective or individual memory. In her work, she also recycles television and cinema images, which she « re-edits », playing with the visual codes of these two media. In 2003, she received SCAM’s digital art grant for 361° de bonheur,co-edited by Incidences and Vidéochroniques. She also created videos for theatrical pieces, as well as a video for the Maison Rimbaud in Charleville Mézières in 2005. Her videos are regularly presented in festivals in France and abroad, in art centres and museums. She has also held solo screening sessions at the Cinémathèque Française in 2004, at Némo festival and Jeu de Paume museum in 2005, at the Scriptwriters’ festival at Bourges in 2009. Her video Transports amoureux was presented as n°1 of TALENTS collection. Her videos are mainly distributed by Heure Exquise.
